Aleph sp 2222 DEV Side Available

To:  Campuses with Aleph regions hosted on Delaware, Saranac and Seneca
Hello everyone
Service pack 2222 has been applied to the DEV regions of all three servers.  The DEV regions are now up and running and are available for review.  Campuses will need to update the DEV Aleph GUI client. Documentation on using version check, as well as access to a new sp2222 client, are available at:
The version check documentation also provides information on updating your LIBRARY.INI file with the unique Aleph server name that has been established for each campus.
The schedule for the PROD side upgrades as well as documentation from ExLibris that indicates the specifics of the service pack upgrade are available at http://www.sunyconnect.suny.edu/olisdocs/public/Aleph/Version_18_Campus_Service_Pack_2222/

Please submit questions regarding the client update and the service pack upgrade to Footprints at http://service.sunyconnect.suny.edu/footprints/help.html

Thank you

360Link ScienceDirect list has been updated

Hello.

The SUNYConnect-specific listing of ScienceDirect titles and holdings has been updated for the 360Link service and other components (A-Z list, etc.)

“SUNY Science Direct Titles” has been updated with 2nd quarter 2010 changes announced by Elsevier (new/changed titles).  This represents SUNYConnect holdings for 2181 titles available through ScienceDirect.

Thanks to librarians at UB and Buffalo State for additional details related to this update.

SUNYCatalog Announcement

This is to announce the new SUNYCatalog at http://search.sunyconnect.suny.edu/. SUNYCatalog, based on the WorldCat Search API, is a replacement to the Aleph based SUNYConnect Union Catalog. The goal of SUNYCatalog, as with the current Aleph based Union Catalog, is to provide a SUNY-wide view of all library holdings, as well as provide functionality to check circulation status availability, request items through ILL, and provide a backup to local campus catalogs. Both the Aleph based Union Catalog and the new SUNYCatalog will be available through the summer into the Fall semester.  During the Fall semester the OLIS will make a decision about when to de-commission the Aleph based Union Catalog.

SUNYCatalog was a result of the OLIS staff investigation of various open source and commercial vendor products as possible replacements to the current SUNYConnect Union Catalog. This initiative was undertaken because of concerns about the eventual viability of the Aleph based Union Catalog since it is running on unsupported versions of Aleph, the operating system and Oracle. Further, given that technology is ever evolving; that many of the products reviewed were in various stages of development; and that significant financial constraints will continue to impact SUNY campus and SUNYConnect funding for the foreseeable future, the OLIS looked for a product now available, that would support the current uses of the Union Catalog, provide enhancements, and that could be deployed within a relatively short timeframe with minimal impact on financial and staff resources.

The OLIS has been working with the IDS group on their development of the IDS Search interface. Creating the SUNYCatalog interface API builds on this collaboration already underway with the IDS Project.
