Aleph v18 Upgrade activities beginning April 14

RE: 18 upgrade of campus DEV regions for

Your Aleph v16 DEV region will be taken down April 14 prior to 5:00am. The v18 upgrade activities will then begin. Please review the Upgrade Process Summary for the DEV region that is available on the Version 18 Upgrade Schedule. The schedule is available at


The v18 updates to the Aleph tables on the DEV side will become the basis for v18 tables updates on the PROD side. Once your v16 DEV side is shutdown, DO NOT make changes to your v16 PROD side Aleph tables. If you do continue to make changes on your v16 PROD side AFTER your v16 DEV sides is shutdown, you ****MUST**** keep track of those changes and redo them again once your v18 PROD side becomes available

You can continue all work done through the Aleph Staff GUI such as adding and editing bibliographic records and functions associated with circulation, course reserves, acquisitions and serials.


The v18 DEV region will be available in three to four weeks minimally. This time is needed to create the v18 environment that will be the basis for the v18 updates to the campus PROD region. Please note that in the v14 to v16 upgrade, new hardware servers were installed for v16. Consequently, building the v16 DEV regions was done outside of the v14 DEV/PROD server environment. With the v18 migration, all upgrade work must be done on the current v16 servers. The ITEC and OLIS staff will work diligently to create the v18 DEV regions within this constraint.

When the v18 DEV side becomes available for review, a message will be posted to SUNYLMS and a direct email will be sent to the campus Aleph contact. (Go to the URL noted above for a list of contacts.) At the time the v18 DEV sides become available, Aleph campus contacts will receive a packet of information related to installing the v18 client, using Angel for Aleph v18 update training, the WebOPAC environment, use of Sandbox, lists of any Aleph tables that campuses might need to review, and other pertinent material.
